For those who aspire to become a respiratory therapist, they will not be disappointed with the job. It is a position that is in high demand and the pay is quite good as well. Respiratory therapists will be working side by side with the medical doctors to help design a treatment plan for those with breathing problems and chronic diseases, as well as asthma, the flu and COPD. Their main job is to help rehabilitate those with respiratory difficulties, so that the patient can lead as comfortable of a life as possible.

Sometimes a respiratory therapy technician will be assigned to help the respiratory therapist, who has been appointed by the physician in charge. Usually this is the case in a larger facility where many patients are being treated and there may be a shortage of respiratory therapists.

Classes That Are Important To Learn

The best choice, if one has the time is to go through a four year university and obtain a bachelor’s degree. Some of the courses that one would need to excel in are:

  • Human anatomy and Physiology
  • Patient Care and Holistic Health Approaches
  • Medical Administration and Record Keeping
  • Communication skills are also a plus in the field.

Since dealing with patients is one of the most important qualities a respiratory therapist can have, it is important that they learn to have a gentle bedside manner. Patients, especially small children are very frightened when they are experiencing breathing problems, that is why it is up to the respiratory therapists to put their patients at ease throughout their breathing rehabilitation.

What is good to know is that once ones academic qualifications are taken care of there are respiratory therapy positions that will be open to one upon graduation. Since there has been a continual shortage of health care workers, it is nearly safe to say that there are jobs for all those who present their qualifications, which is good news in a shaky economy.

Most people think that an attorney does all the work when a client retains an attorney for legal services, but it is actually the team behind the attorney that is the one who actually gathers and processes everything for the attorney.

Medical Billing And Coding: A Demanding Job Well Worth The Education

It is no surprise that medical billing and coding is a very demanding job, but it also rewards those that are involved in it with a nice paying salary. The great news is that the more experienced one is the better the pay. To become one of these professional members of the medical industry, one would need the right training and take their examinations for their certification in the field. This way they are able to compete at the top ranges for jobs, as well as, incomes in their career.

The occupation of a billing and coding specialist, can be what one would call a complex job. Medical billing is one aspect of the position and medical coding is another. Both are equally contributing to the end all result, to make sure that the physicians and medical facilities are paid for their services, that they provide for patients in their care. Each responsibility is unique in their own way. To work from patient charts, deciphering what the doctor has diagnosed and treated, would be what the coder is looking for when they are to use their alpha numeric coding system, call ICD-9′s to represent to the insurance companies, what has been done. It is much to lengthy to write out novels of notes as to what was performed on the patient, that is why a universal coding system was generated. It makes it much easier in the long run for this process.

By identifying treatments with the codes, the insurance companies know exactly what was done and are then able to reimburse the medical facilities or physicians promptly. Being that the coding system is universally known to all those in the medical field, wherever one would go, any doctors office, they would use the same system. It doesn’t matter if one worked in California or New York, the system would be the same. This is good to know for those that have learned this career and may be anticipating a move across the country.

With all that said, it does not mean that this job is easy, it does require a great attention to details and quite a bit of extensive researching. It is of the utmost importance that one knows the ins and outs of these systems, in order to be as effective as possible. When one enrolls in an accredited school to learn this career, the training and knowledge that they learn is very important, due to the fact that this job is so demanding. Those that graduate at the top of their class will transition into the career much better.

One of the most important aspects of going to a medical billing and coding school is to make sure that is accredited, before you spend your hard earned monies. Not all the schools are alike, and it is often overlooked, as an important value. The organizations that make sure that a school is accredited is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, American Health Information Management Association or the Regional Accrediting Bodies.

When one is involved with a solid training course, it can provide one with the necessary expertise for medical billing and coding. All this would include being comfortable with registering patients information, performing insurance verifications, preparing and posting the transactions, charging patient accounts, billing and coding insurance claims and collecting patients payments. It is quite a lot of bookkeeping and accounting, but one would become very well trained in all these aspects.

By the end of the training course, students would have a solid understanding of all that is involved and expected of them once they enter their job as a medical biller and coder.
